December 14, 2025 [Secretary Written by Secretary](https://mrrc.club/blog/author/secretary) 3 Min Read The first major Queensland regatta of the 2026 season is almost here! The **Queensland State Championships** will take place from **Thursday 23 to Sunday 25 January** at the **Queensland State Rowing Centre on Wyaralong Dam** — a landmark regatta and an important part of the season for rowers across the state. [Rowing Queensland](https://www.rowingqld.asn.au/events/325746?utm_source=chatgpt.com) Whether you’re planning to race, cheering from the banks, or supporting friends and teammates, this event is a great chance for MRRC athletes to test their speed, refine race skills, and measure progress early in the year. ## **What You Should Know** Here’s the key information from the official regatta notice and event calendar: ### 📅 **Dates & Venue** - **When:** *Friday 23 to Sunday 25 January 2026 (Australia Day is the Monday following)* - **Where:** **Queensland State Rowing Centre, Wyaralong Dam** ### 🛶 **Who Can Race** The State Championships is open to club and school crews across Underage, Open, and Masters categories. It’s one of the season’s most competitive events.  We will be competing as a club as none of our schools will have signed up for the season given that they're all on holidays.  Check your age category - Under 16 means that at 11:59pm on the 31st December 2026 you will be 15 years of age or less.  Under 19 = 18 years of age or less and so on.  ### 📋 **Racing Format** Racing will be conducted across multiple age groups and boat classes. Expect heats, semis, and finals — structured to give crews multiple chances to compete and advance through the programme. ### 📣 **Important Preparation Notes** - **Talk to your coach now:** Please speak with your coach *as soon as possible* about your **availability to attend** and the **races you want to contest** so that training plans, insurances and registratrations can be finalised in time. - Coaches will be confirming crews and race entries in the coming weeks, so early communication ensures you’re in the right events. - Final race schedules, start lists, and regatta details will be published closer to the event — keep an eye on Rowing Manager and the Rowing Queensland Socials for updates. ### 🧠 **Why This Matters** The State Championships are more than just another regatta. It’s where rowers can: - test themselves against the very best in Queensland, - gain valuable racing experience early in the season, - and set momentum heading into the bigger race blocks later in the year. - achieve visibility by the selectors for the Queensland Pathways - if this interests you and you haven't highlighted this with your coach speak up now. For many athletes, this regatta sets the tone for their 2026 campaign — whether you’re chasing personal bests, aiming for finals, or building confidence one race at a time. --- Stay tuned for more details as the official race program and event bulletin are released — and make sure to lock in your plans with your coach so you can be race-ready at Wyaralong in January! ![Secretary - author image](https://mrrc.club/hubfs/mrrc%20logo.png) #### [Secretary Written by Secretary](https://mrrc.club/blog/author/secretary) [Previous Post Previous Post](https://mrrc.club/blog/a-weekend-of-bling-at-queensland-grade-championships) A Weekend of Bling at Queensland Grade Championships [Next Post Next Post](https://mrrc.club/blog/lets-finish-2025-strong-bunnings-sausage-sizzle-friday-19-december) Let’s Finish 2025 Strong — Bunnings Sausage Sizzle, Friday 19 December ### Leave a Reply Your email address will not be published.
